I'm curious to know how you posted this message. If it was from your desktop, that would indicate to me that the problem is with your laptop and not your ISP. But maybe you posted this from a friend's computer...

If your internet is not either DSL or cable, if it is wireless or satellite, then it's likely, imo, that your internet is down because of the internet equipment failing by way of the antennas being knocked out of alignment...

By wireless there, I do not mean a wireless router you might have...I mean that your modem connects to your ISP wirelessly. If you have DSL or cable, turn off (unplug) your modem for two minutes (as well as router if you have one) and try internet from both laptop and desktop for diagnostic purposes. If neither can access internet, then either they're both damaged or your ISP is at fault and there's no way I can tell. It will be interesting to see what they say when you call them. If one but not both can access the internet, that is the most useful diagnostic result as it tells you that (a) your ISP is not at fault and (b) one of your machines has an issue.

During storms I have noticed that even slight power surges and flickers can adversely affect my computers. One such flicker bricked my machine, unfortunately. There was nothing I could do except replace the motherboard.

Hehe, now I know why mental health quizzes make the disclaimer that the result is not meant to diagnose or treat any condition. It's really hard to tell what's going on without being there.
