When he said it was a stress fracture please tell me that he had x rayed your hip and done an MRI if nothing was seen on x ray (often stress fractures don't show up on x ray)? If it hasn't been x rayed / MRI then please take yourself somewhere where it will be. Stress fractures can heal on their own but it takes a fair amount of time - use crutches if you need them, don't push through pain, lots of rest, see a physio. One of the risks with stress fractures is if they are potentially unstable and shift position and then they need fixing with an operation.
Good on you for stopping the diazepam as it was having an adverse effect, maybe you can ask to try some baclofen which is not a benzo or -iazapine of any sort and seems to work quite well.
