Hey, I did some brief reading about this a while back and I think they referred to it as a type of tinnitus (when your ears tell your brain it hears noise, but there's not really noise there). The info I read really wanted to distance this music from auditory hallucinations because most people who get 'musical tinnitus' don't have any psych history and because of the negative connotations of the word 'hallucination'. Sorry this is all very vague cos it was a while ago. I told my pdoc and she didnt rly care (not that she cared about any of my other symptoms much either! Glad I'm not seeing her any more! lol) Anyway, hope this helps.
