Are you sure something didn't happen when you were younger? Maybe nothing that stands out, but you know like mosquitos or moths or something. I live in Louisiana and nighttime certainly brings out some extra bugs. I am like you and double check every thing and keep my nighttime water covered and I turn the light at night to use the bathroom which is next to my bedroom just in case.
