You could always do what I did -- work your *** off, get good grades and get scholarships. And yes, I *do* have an answer for every excuse someone wants to offer ;-) -- you can't do a damn thing without an education. I worked long enough at crap jobs to find that out, so I went and did what I needed to do. It's not hard. Really.
