Remember the young woman's (who ended up marrying Zimbardo) first encounter with the subject known as John Wayne? She met him before his shift began and was 'having the most pleasant conversation with a very nice, intelligent man'. After he left she asked the other researchers if they would point out 'John Wayne', the subject already infamous for his meanness and cruelty. The two men were, of course, the same.

I cringe every time I hear someone say that they know a cop and "he's not like that". I just want to tell them that you have no idea what he is like away from you. Anyway, just suggesting that he might be a saint at home.
