Unemployment payment in the US works differently to here in Australia. Here if one is unemployed they are paid an income benefit for the whole time they are unemployed. They are supported into employment and often retrained to make them more employable in industries which are short on staff. They must be constantly looking for work and must prove they have been looking by having prospective employers sign a form to say that they applied there.
Things are so difficult for the unemployed and I don't see the governments of any country doing much to alleviate the problem. But when you look at it closely enough the people in government are the ones who own most of the industry so they are all going to save themselves as much money as possible aren't they?
