Icky subject but it should be talked about. I have been suffering from long term constipation. It almost seemed like I had forgotten how to go. I had lost patience and gave up way too quickly. I don't know if anyone else has had that experience.
I finally asked my GP. He prescribed something called Movicol. They are powders that you make up into a drink. I took them for a week or so and it did help. It was supposed to kick start my system but it didn't. My system is very stubborn.
I have tried most things but not suppositories. Stool softeners help but don't take too many.. Believe me!! My trouble was that I was changing too many things at once. I would never know what helped !!
I am now eating about 85 grams of prunes every morning. I think it is helping and I am reasonably regular. I also take 4-6 psyllium capsules before lunch and 2 Acidophilus capsules with lunch. I think my diet is reasonably good but it may lack enough fiber.
If you do too well, you end up with a loose stomach or you feel like you always want to go !!
At the moment, I am a lot happier and I go most days.
