Well, this is not about bipolar, but I have to get it off my chest. I wear dentures. I also did (until this week) take generic Fosamax. I was gonna get implants so I could eat better. I couldn't take the implants so I had the dentist take them out.
Anyway long story short. I had a sore in my mouth that wouldn't heal. Usually a sore heals in 2-3 days. This one had been in my mouth 1 1/2 months. I called my dentist and he was out of town and was referred to a really good oral sergeon.
He looked at my mouth. He put an instrument on the sore. I came out of the seat. He did it again. Then he asked me if I took Fosamax. I said yes.
He said I have osteonecronis of the jaw. That means that the place in my jaw I thought was a sore spot is dead. And it was caused by taking Fosamax. He gave me a scrip for antibiotics & some mouthwash and I go back in a week.
I talked to a lawyer. There are a lot of lawsuits out there about this. People getting disfigured and such. Breaking bones, too. But I am out of luck. I did not take the right brand. I took generic instead of the Merck brand of Fosamax.
I hope it doesn't spread. I couldn't find any info on that.
I'm sorry. I am bipolar. I have to vent. And here's where I vent I guess.
When you get old and they tell you you have osteoporosis, take Evista. It doesn't have the ingredients that Fosamax, Boniva and Actonel do.

Thanks for listening.
