I am on 4mg risperidone atm and comming off the drug soon. Some advice on how to avoid side effects is to not increase the dose unless your doctor says so, when i 1st took the medication i would increase the dosage on bad days not realising that it takes around 2 weeks for you to notice any effects from a increase and i found rushing the medication up just 1mg too soon can cause very bad restlessness. I couldnt sit still or sleep for 2 days following. however when taken responsibly and as perscribed it is a very good medication. Only really big side effect i noticed from it is that i have put on 25kgs since going on the medication 2 years ago, at one point i had put on 40kgs. I weighed around 65 - 70kgs when i started the drug. I know this could have been avoided by changing the way i eat. Smaller meals and doing abit of exercise each day which is what i have been doing recently and have lost alot of weight since then. I hope all goes well for you on risperidone and remember to follow your doctors instructions on how much and when to take it. Self medicating only causes problems as i found out.
