I must agree with Perna what she has written is exactly what the 3rd post says. Our mental illness is with us before it is aparent, and it is responding to certain stimulus that can exacerbate it or bring it out.
Every person I've met or dealt with has gone back to a much younger age to pin point the onset of their symptoms but they have not reacted or responded to that situation particularly as a "causation" of their illness.
I have however met a number of people who wanted their relationship to be the cause of their mental illness so that they had someone to blame, it doesn't work that way. In many, many cases mental illness is hereditary. A case in poingt is that I found out that the mental illness I have, a great uncle I never met, had when he was alive. It wasn't until I told my mum of my symptoms and diagnosis that she actually told me about this great uncle.
