If it's any consolation-- the stuff like in your paragraph above happens to me
all the time. Seriously, like every day. By way of example, just a day or two ago, I thought there was a baby deer lying down in a small planting on an office grounds. It was a rock. And rather rectangular at that. Might have even been gray. Usually I just chalk them up to a creative mind... to see things within things, things fully formed from nuance... Doesn't mean some of them haven't freaked me out. Sometimes it's a fine line.
I've not really thought of them as hallucinations, per se. It's something I also do consciously. Hard to describe, but like... trancing and seeing myriad images on/in something. When it's not conscious, I figure it's just my brain on autopilot(!)
I agree with the others that it's a good idea to check on it. Doesn't mean it IS anything, but it's better to check than to worry.
