I'm really sorry that you're in this predicament. I hope things get better for you soon. Re the taxes - that bites. But up here we have a voluntary disclosure program that you can apply to if you're behind on your filings. If you voluntarily go in and say I haven't filed, you can file but not be charged any penalties although you might still get charged interest if you owe taxes, but it's still better than the tax people coming after you. I know here you can also negotiate a payment schedule. I hope that the IRS has something similar.
