Well normally the alters are protectors. They are there to help out with traumatic events. The one in the mirror was the innocent one that they wanted to protect.
They can get defensive and think they are doing good by cutting you out. I didn't know if you could communicate or not. They can hear you and they do communicate, but maybe not with words.
