Fuzzy, this seems to be the basic premise behind positive affirmations, which I've used with some success. The thing is, even if you don't believe something, if you say it enough, then it will sink into your head.

I also once was in a training class where the instructor said, "If you think about what you want, rather than what you don't want, it just might happen." And I have found, that even when I don't really believe it, the more I focus on a positive outcome, the more likely it is to occur.

So, I guess the key is to keep focused on the outcome you want, even if it is "faking it". The problem is, I have seen many people that just can't do it...they can't bring thenselves to say words that they don't believe, even if they really wish they were true. So things like positive affirmations tend not to work. So "fake it 'til you make it" does not really seem to apply to everyone. Which is why the same therapeutic technique doesn't work for everyone.
