Well, here's my take on it. I am not someone who compliments people if I don't mean it. I'm very straightforward, when I like something and also when I don't. Some people don't like it when I tell them I don't like something, and so sometimes I just don't say anything at all. It depends upon the situation -- if it hurts them if I don't tell them, then I tell them anyway. I try to pick my battles.
The up-side to being this way is that when I DO like something and tell the other person, then I think it means more to them. They are then pleased, and I haven't compromised anything about myself.
I try to compensate for not pleasing all the people all the time by being kind when I feel kind, and keeping my mouth shut when I'm not.
