Whether the facilitators tried to stop the teasing or not, the harm has been done. She wasn't able to keep on going knowing what people really think of her, even though not verbalizing it.

My friend will keep on visiting when he can but he might not stay long. He feels awkward when he's there, but like you said, he lets her know he cares and she's not really 'alone'.
