I am so very sorry to hear about your precious Hammie. I lost my 20-year-old cat a month ago and can empathize with your grief. I cried and cried and cried for days.

I *did* adopt another cat from our local SPCA after a couple of weeks and the responsibility of caring for a new pet helps. But never, EVER "replace" the area in my heart where my Morris lives.
