I think you made a good first move. You're right to tell him he's on his own in this. You love him, that will never change, but you can't support his gambling.

I'm not to sure about the next move, but I think it might be his. If he really would like to talk, there is gamblers anonymous, which is similar to AA. People can learn to deal with this addictive behavior. He'll have to be able to admit there's a problem, and want to deal with it, however, which are things only he can decide about.
