This may possibly be true in relation to
psychosis, but definitely not true regarding all mental illness. For example, a person who is clincially depressed knows full well that he/she is mentally ill.
Pn the other hand, someone in a manic bipolar state may be completely unaware.
But many non-psychotic mentally ill people may well be more "aware" of things by their nature to "scan" their environment constantly due to fear. If graded, I have no doubt I would get an A+ in scanning.
