Right, when you know someone you can understand what is really going on with them and can read between the lines. It's a lot harder when you don't know the person as well yet. Some posts can be taken at face value because that is how they are meant (although the writer still might have something between the lines and not realize it), but usually what is betwen the lines is of more importance.

A lot of these questions go along with my personality theory class. Some theorists always read between the lines (like Freud), but there are those who never do (they either don't consider the unconscious to be of significant importance or prefer to stick to the facts and what is observable) and also others anywhere in between.
