Hi Are you looking for the term "co-conscious" ? That's awareness by one alter of the experience of other alters within the system or person with DID.

"Dissociation" is a term used to describe the loss of time, and inability to recall what took place during that time. Some do sense things going "black" as another alter takes over and the present one is not co-conscious. (Yes, some alters can be co-conscious with others and some not be. There is also one-way awareness, where one alter is aware of another, but that other one is not aware of them.

"Trigger" is what you call it when something occurs or a memory causes fear. You can have triggers that you don't realize, but are "body memories" only.

I'm glad you are able to have your PTSD dog in the future. Not everyone with DID also has PTSD, so don't feel you have to explain anything to anyone, ok?

Stay safe.
