I'd be very sure to make that attourney explain exactly what he/she thinks bankruptcy will do for you in this case. It won't fix your credit. It won't prevent you from going to jail because that won't happen anyway... it won't prevent you from having things taken because that won't happen either unless you own a bunch of money or assets and if you do the bankruptcy wouldn't protect those.

a bankruptcy will clear a debt but one does it to protect what one has and to clear the slate... it's an option but it has to make sense because it costs a bunch of money to do it. Like, if you owned a house but didn't own a lot of equity in the house then it would be worth it so you could keep our house, etc etc....

you are also legally allowed to place a note on your credit file with the bureaus.... I think it's 5 lines or a max number of words. You can do that to have some sort of reference to future credit agencies so they can see the reason for your current situation.

i mean... you have to trust your lawyer vs some rhino on the interwebs, but... i really don't see how a bankruptcy will get you anything except about a thousand dollars or more further in the hole.

i'm pretty poor and one benefit is that i could care less about debt because i can't do jack about it anyway.

personally i'd say go buy a thousand dollars worth of something you'd enjoy and just let the creditors cry. You didn't take their money and nothing they can do... send them a hallmark card.

hope you feel better soon lost..
