Estee it sounds like this is a very good way of thinking on your part, and I just wanted to emphasize how important it is to find a balance here. Of course you want to be cautious and protect yourself, and you must stay aware of that. However you don't want to be too cautious and thereby miss opportunities for happiness. Like most things, the "answer" lies neither here nor there, but somewhere in the middle, where there is balance. We must always risk a little hurt in order to achieve pleasure, but that is what makes us alive.

I also wanted to say it is perfectly fine if you want to ask him first. It is OK to wait for him, and I think your decision to "wait for him, but to ask him if he is taking too long" is another example of finding a great balance in your life. You are definitely taking a healthy approach to this, and that is a victory no matter how this turns out. (From what you've said though, it certainly sounds to me like he is already thinking along the same lines as you... so good luck, this may just be in the cards for you!)
