It's been awhile since I've seen my therapist. I've been traveling a lot on business lately and even though I got to see a lot of old good friends, travel is stressful and lonely. I have felt as though I have been flailing about - manic and vigilant. Of course, one has to be when traveling alone.

It was so good to see him again and re-connect - truly re-connect and be quiet, comfortable and safe. We ended the session with a big hug, and frankly this is only the second hug we have ever shared and I've been seeing him for years.

I'm sure it's normal to doubt the relationship we have with our therapist. I'm also sure that there are detractors who describe it as having a paid friend. However, I have found that true openess, time and trust results in a mutual exchange that can be so healing.

Being able to say "this is bothering me" without the burden of having to carry someone else's problems has been the essence of my therapy lately and I think distinctly separates this relationship from simply being one with a paid friend. It's a special kind of sharing.

I just want to hold that feeling of quiet for a bit longer. It's a damn rare thing for me.
Thanks for this!
