You need to find a psychiatrist you trust. A mood stabiliser and anti-depressants are a good start for a bipolar patient, but you need to continuously stay in touch with your doc to let him know how you are doing. It could take quite a while until your meds are sorted and you are more or less stable.
I'm glad you made the difficult decision to speak to a doctor in the first place.
