on SSI when you work they reduce your check amount by what you make working. that is why ssi is a good thing. you can try to work but it doesn't mean you'll lose your ssi. that's the whole point of it. if it doesn't work out you will return to your full check amount from ssi. in the meantime while working you keep your med. insurance, etc. so not to worry. the good thing is you're willing to try to work. i did the same thing, worked 20 hours, and found i could manage but in the meantime i had all the benefits as if i wasn't working. good luck and hope this reassures you.
