to a certain extent everyone dissociates. Dissociation is just daydreaming - a persons mind is so busy thinking about other things so they don't know what they are doing physically. for example someone driving a car down a street they have traveled many times before so instead of thinking about how to drive the car (step on brake here, put flashers on here) the person is thinking about their day, the shopping list and so on. Suddenly they notice they are where they set out to go. the drive seems shorter then normal but they were so busy thinking of other things that they dont remember each and every time they stepped on the brake, turned the flashers on and so on. This is normal. so the fact that you cant remember one day or two could be normal. you remembered your relative was coming so most likely your dissociation level is well in the normal range and you were just preoccupied with other things then what day it was. Besides a dissociative disorder causing something like this meds and sleeping alot or not sleeping enough (sleep depravation) can cause Disorientation. Theres so many things this could be that its better not to self diagnose this . a famil;y physician can rule out medical problems anda psychiatrist or psychologist can diagnose the problem if it is dissociative disorders or other mental problems associated with memory problems with a comprehensive psychological evaluation. My blog has the procedure for this testing listed on it. good luck with whatever this turns out to be.
