I don't know your whole story, even with the update.

However, I learned years ago that just because family is wanting something, paying for something, guilting me into something doesn't mean I have to comply.

It sounds to me that staying home with your children, and having a loving, caring time together is much better than the scenes you depicted in your post with going out to that "family" scene!!! Unless I read it wrong, you have the right to stay right where you are, and create a wonderful Christmas without mean-spirited and conniving others involved. There were many holidays where I didn't have money to buy expensive gifts, but found ways to provide some smaller things that my sons loved...that along with homemade bread and cookies, and nearly unlimited time to play with their friends on the school break, made wonderful times. Please at least consider NOT going.
