Why is narcissism bad?
Symptoms:
a) we are only interested in the aspects of actions and objects that affect us personally.
b) we do not feel a moral responsibility to maintain relationships.
c) we have unrealistic goals, as well as the delusion that we have the ability to achieve these goals
d) we have the delusion that our failures were either due to the actions of others, or successes in disguise
e) we need constant feedback on ourselves to avoid depression
f) we hate routine
A lot of the symptoms are concerned with delusion. However, almost everyone is deluded. Think of the number of people who subscribe to religion. Since only one religion can be right, at least 4.5 billion people (The number of people minus the number in the world's largest belief group) are deluded. At least, having discovered our condition, we have less delusions about our delusions.
While the unrealistic goals can lead to setbacks, they can also be a good thing. Realising that everything we set out to do is likely to be impossible allows us to prepare a safety net, but ambition does lead to abnormal development, and considering ourselves to be one of a kind, the best at everything, and so on, certainly doesn't hurt our progess, as long as we keep a healthy sense of self-irony.
As for our lack of morality, or rather, our lack of consideration for society, morality is a personal choice, and we have all chosen to ignore it. While to others this may seem deplorable, to us, there are many reasons why this is sensible.
Our need for constant feedback is a problem, and paralyses us daily. So, to solve this problem, I suggest the following:
We should create a group of people who are affected by or have narcissism. It could be a way to encourage each other and help rebuild our self esteem.
