I have BP II also, and the manic phases can easily be mistaken for an energetic, outgoing personality. Especially when you learn to hide the depression. For me, being on an SSRI threw me into a long-term manic phase, so I finally got the right diagnosis and the right medication. Rather than focusing on a diagnosis, how about asking your doctors to treat specific symptoms when you have them? A lot of diagnoses come from which medications work and which don't.
