I know exactly what it feels like to be unable to fall asleep when you need it the most. I am also a very nocturnal person, and I have difficulty falling asleep most of the time, and when I do it usually doesn't last very long. Especially in my final year of university I had intense throuble sleeping due to an intense workload that created subconscious pressure. A few things that I can share with you that might help (works for some, but not everybody):
A wise old piece of advice is to drink lukewarm milk with a dash of honey in it before going to bed, it usually helps you fall asleep. I know it sounds like a silly old wives tale but it has really helped me in the past. Alternatively, if that doesn't work, try drinking green tea, especially with chamomile - it's been known to calm the nerves and ease you into slumber.
If that doesn't work there are other things you can try. I don't know if you've ever heard of brain entrainment? It's specifically generated frequencies that stimulate certain brainwaves for certain desired results. For example, if you want to be awake for school or to concentrate intensely you would stimulate your beta waves for an hour. For sleep, it helps to stimulate the delta brainwaves (the state of mind where you are unaware of what's going on around you and what not, I'm not particularly clued up on the exact details). These audio files are usually available for download or purchase online. PM me and I'll send you a link (don't know if I'm allowed to share links in a thread, I'm new here).
With regards to your dream it's important to note what kind of emotion you were feeling. I take it it's obviously terror or something of the sort, which has it's own specific implications and subconscious meanings. The clouds might signify either a religious feeling or depression, and it might be that this depression is hidden and is portrayed in the dream through the use of the cloud image. I don't know if that's relevant to you at all. My interpretation would be that it might indicate a sort of bipolar situation or something, and the fact that the dark cloud's "kisses" still remain on your arm could indicate that it still has a strong hold over you or something.
Please note that I'm no professional dream interpreting-hippie, I just work from my own connotations and dream journals and things, the symbols might mean something completely different to you.
