Make sure that you have a set time that you go to bed, so that you train your body to know when it's time for sleep. If you have difficulty getting to sleep, try brain entrainment (those audio files that stimulate certain wavelengths of your brain; for example, to get into the perfect wavelength for deep sleep you would stimulate your delta waves). If that doesn't work, maybe consult a doctor about sleeping aids. If you don't sleep a lot you are more prone to nightmares as well. I don't know if this counts for everyone but I've noticed that the less I sleep the more I get nightmares when I do eventually sleep.
