Hi Elana05,

Different women have different "normal" menses. Keeping track of how often you change pads and/or tampons, how many days or weeks periods last, as well as any overflow patterns would be extremely helpful to see what your pattern is.

Go to the doctor with your written track from a couple of months of menses. From there, your GYN will have the info needed to help you become more comfortable. There are new meds that lessen the severity of excessive bleeding (dysmenorrhea), if your bleeding is dangerously high. A simple blood test can also be done to see if your iron levels have been made low by dysmenorrhea.

There are different severity levels: from mild to severe, like any other illness. Depending upon the severity, your age, what you have and haven't tried, there are different options to go over with your GYN.

I fought severe dysmenorrhea ~ due to adenomyosis ~ for 20 years before I finally gave in to hysterectomy. It is a long load that many women have found themselves on. You're welcome to PM me if you have any Q's.

Best wishes to you!
