I could be a medication side effect as well....start any new meds recently?
It could also be a reaction to stress. Might be SI, but doesn't really fit the profile. I had a roommate once that like to pick at her face when under a lot of stress. So, evaluate your stress level? Could also be the beginning traits of OCD.
