The active ingredient in Lexapro is escitalopram - very similar to citalopram.
I hope it works for you.

Glad you managed to go see your GP and that he understands. If you don't notice much improvement (Bearing in mind that SSRI's take quite a while before they kick in) it may be worth getting a referral for a therapist and pdoc.
