Really? Oh, knowing that I'd be leerie of such a person who calls himself a Psychiatrist.
You are right, any legitimate pdoc can help a person get off of meds. safely. Now, if one is referring to "street drugs" he or she can direct a person where to go for treatment while treating that person too. Many group and non-group programs are available at many of our medical centers, that work with pdocs., therapists,psychologists and counselars.
Some pdocs. specialize in areas of the field, where I go the pdocs. work with people with any mental disorders, but at the same time some specialize in ADD,Bipolar,Substance Abuse, etc.
I'd stay away from any pdoc. that suggests going off meds., especially if they are helping, just for the sake of being med free, and doing "it" med. free. We just do not "snap out" of our disorders.
