My children are grown and have children of their own, but just like birthing, it's something you don't forget much about! 
I think it's important to realize that you don't have to be supermom (though my sons called me that in jest I think) to raise children well. Sincerity, honesty, ethics and morals are key, imo. Allowing children to learn from failure is important. (This "no losers, everyone gets a prize is already showing its negative effects on society .)
I have a personal assistant who is quite smart, but naive in many things in this country. I've found that I can tell her something over and over, but until I show her, and let her try and fail, she doesn't learn it. Children are that way too. Plus it builds resiliency and the ability to pick oneself up after falling.
Continue the journey no one else understands but "moms."
