Venus, generally people go into therapy when they feel that their lives are so miserable/ distressing that they need help. In other words, they do need to feel motivated. That's why court-ordered therapy is often not effective. Are you functioning sufficently well enough that you don't feel like you want to try therapy? I gather something IS bothering you or you wouldn't be asking.
Please don't let this discussion scare you about therapy. I have found it to be a very rewarding experience--a life-changing experience--and I am so thankful that I finally did go into it. In general, therapists set goals with patients and the client can decide how "heavily" to get into it at a given time. Therapy is work, however, so you do need to be willing to work with the therapist. Why, you could even begin with your concerns about therapy. If you don't feel like you are establishing a "therapeutic bond" with one, then you can try someone else. You might even be able to talk to the receptionist, if one is available, about what kind of therapist you are looking for, and go from there. You can deal with current issues that are distressing you or head into the past. Some of them are willing to work on a sliding scale for payment, if you don't have insurance.
