Hi Melissa ~ When i was in the early days of recovery, I wanted to give up too, but something stopped me -- I guess my conscience did. You CAN'T give up -- this is a life or death matter. We're not playing games here. You really don't have a choice.
We can't miss too many meetings either. When we do, we put ourselves in a heap of danger! That's when we start "planning" our relapse. You see a relapse isn't a spur of the moment thing - we actually start subconsciously planning it months before.
The same goes for counseling sessions - if you miss them you're either going to get into trouble or you're going to relapse. Or both. It's just not worth it!
If you're depressed, talk to your doctor. From the sounds of it you might be. There is no HARM in taking an antidepressant. Half of the addicts/alcoholics in the world have to take antidepressants - our chemistry is all screwed up due to "medicating" ourselves for so long. So talk to your doctor and see what he thinks. And remember - take it ONLY AS PRESCRIBED. You could kill yourself if you abuse it. God bless and please take care of yourself. Hugs, Lee
