I don't have wise advice but I'm surprised someone didn't tell your hubby to sue the company for an unsafe workplace and negligence. You can't fall that distance and get only a mere knee pain. Keep thorough records and it sounds like your hubbies a bit of a martyr but this is making all of you suffer. He needs a firm diagnosis with some concrete solutions to manage this pain. All the dodging by you and the kids won't cure his pain. Personally I would sue the company and this would have forced the docs to thoroughly investigate your hubby's pain.
