Ok.. still another viewpoint.. this one is religious, so if that offends you, stop reading?
The couple was returning from a mission trip.
Most of us know how stressful travelling is in the first place... and those of us with psychological and/or physical disabilities find it unbelievably stressful! Also, add that this was an international trip, they were flying, so add in the lack of movement, dehydration.. all key factors that we have to watch for and ward off negative aspects...
THEN add... the reason for the trip..and what -or who- was behind it.
You know, I am a Christian. I am still amazed at the things other religious people say to me or about others who are disabled... to "just" rely upon God. I wonder if this man and his wife were somehow "pressured" to just rely upon God, that everything would be fine with faith... even though they knew it would be too tough?
I often have someone ask me to do something I know I cannot. Often it doesn't even take soliciting the higher mind of God for His opinion... I mean, my own feeble earthly brain can figure out plenty! Sometiimes they just don't "get it." Well, in that case it takes a strong mind and will to say , "No. I cannot do that." IMO God made this body to respond to things a certain way, to break down for certain reasons, to work or not depending upon HIS originating design.. and sometimes it means STOP!
What if... this couple KNEW the trip was not a good idea but they succumbed to well wishers who egged them into it.. plus add the natural desire to serve God... Anyway, I wonder if there will be Christians who will "answer" for this... it won't be a Merry Christmas for many... Please remember to also pray for the 190 other passengers and crew who have been traumatized...and may never be the same again.
It shows you have to draw the line somewhere.. always... the line has to be drawn somewhere! Learning to draw it so that you are safe, so that you do a good job of self-care... that's important imo.
