"Are K2, Spice Gold, and other herbal incense products addictive?

Apparently so. Last year, German researchers reported the case of a 20-year-old man who had been using the Spice Gold product daily for eight months.

Not long after starting the product, the man found that he needed larger and larger doses to feel an effect. He quickly increased his use to 3 grams per day -- 10 times the dose that produced the effects described by Auwarter.
The man felt a continuous need for the product. He was unable to get it for a period of time and experienced unrest, drug craving, nightmares, sweating, nausea, tremor, headache, high blood pressure, and racing heartbeat. This went away when he again began using the product.
Finally, the man was persuaded to stop using the product. But fearing a repeat of his earlier experience, he checked into a hospital. Sure enough, he again went through classic withdrawal symptoms that lasted a week.
This clinical description fits with reports that Auwarter has received. He says that while classic drug dependence is rare among cannabis users, it may be much more common among users of synthetic cannabinoids."

i am so sorry to see you in such pain and worry. i believe there's a statute called 35, similar to 302 (for suicidal people whereby they are admitted whether they like it or not.) i wonder if you could impose this on your son to get him the help he needs. the biggest problem is this-if he doesn't want help, he'll continue to use. if he doesn't think he has a prob with k2, he will continue to use no matter what anyone says, does, or pleads.

the other thought i had was, can this info be given to his probation officer? k2 doesn't show up in a users system but i wonder if this knowledge you have could be passed on to the PO? as u know k2 is not illegal but the PO might be able to intervene. i don't know.

good for you in recovery. i'm sure you already are learning the benefits. i pray your son will see where this is "taking" him. years ago my son got hooked on crack. i had one discussion with him, i'm a recovering alcoholic, and i said to him-i won't bring this up again, the choice is yours. then i prayed for 6 months. one night he called and said, mom, i'm putting it down. i'll never forget that miracle. he's never used since. today he's a career military officer with 21 years served. i will pray for you and your son. the choice is in his hands. but a miracle can occur for your son too.
