Does anyone know the route to getting into (or even knowing if it's the right level to help) a semi-indepenedant, or a independant housing with being on ssi?

Or how long of a waitline there normally is for this kind of stuff?
Back when i left the psych hospital, one of my choices was going to a group home, but i chose my best friends parents over it (due to many reasons). Since then i've tried living out on my own (with a group of other roommates in the house), i was no where near their level, and pushed it out till my lease was over, and came back to live with my best friend.. To where, i believe i am over staying my welcome (Even tho i'm the one paying for everything).
Is there any places that let you live independantly but have day things for you to do? and allow animals? (even private bed rooms, and maybe a shared community kitchen area or something).
I've tried so hard googling this and talking to my T about this, and talking to others about this and trying to get a social worker. But I'm just fed up and in a "OH I GIVE UP!!" tantrum over not begin able to find anything. i am not even sure what all the titles for places mean, or what they entell.

thx
