Excellent, excellent point. There are all too many of us who require some form of "mind-altering drug" (whether alcohol or something else) in order to speak not only intelligibly, but movingly, seriously, affectingly. Yes, it's a very fine line between such speech and intoxication. But huge numbers of us, like perhaps VenusHalley (and, Lord knows, myself) need some form of stimulation or relaxation to externalize the sometimes eloquent lucubrations that would otherwise resound forever silently, without echo, in our own soundproof, solitary-confinement, mental dungeons.
