NYBP with lamictal and lithium I found I needed to drink quite a bit of water. I had always drank a lot of water and had to increase it after being put on lithium which was then switched to lamictal. When I first had my lamictal increased from 200 to 300 mg I was so thirsty that my throat became sore and it was difficult to swallow. I no longer have this side effect, but I make sure I stay hydrated.
My thoughts on meds is let your pdoc know any side effects etc. that you're having, but try and give a med at least 3 months before you decide if the med is working and/or the side effects etc. aren't worth it. My experience has been that after about 3-6 months the side effects went away or I no longer noticed them.
