yes lamictal is a mood stablizer but it has been used "off label" to treat depression. Many may be reluctant to prescribe it because the chances of developing a rash from it are fairly high as far as incidences of side effects are concerned. Some even develop a life threatening rash called Steven Johnson's syndrome....but that is very rare.
