I've been stuck in the airport now for 5 1/2 hours, and I still have 3 1/2 to go! This sucks, big time.
I have a 4pm flight but came around 7am to change it to an 8:15am flight. Well, just my luck, when I got here I found out that an accident had caused a power outages everywhere on the other side of town - the side I hadn't come from, but included the airport. So everything was offline and the power was out. They were handwriting airlines tickets, and it got real REAL bad. So I've been here since then, ate some pretzels, took a nap. And there was one poor lady who had been trying to handle this whole thing, telling passengers where to go, what to do, and all they were doing was yelling at her like it was her fault.
Well when I went to go get my ticket at about 12:15 (the lines had died down significantly then and the power had been on for about an hour or two) I tried to do an e-ticket and it said my ticket didn't exist. Greeeat. So I got in line and waited, finally got my turn with the lady (who was obviously just fed up with everyone at this point) and handed her my ID. I leaned over the table to her and I said "I just want you to know I've been here since 7am..." at which point I'm sure she thought I was going to *****, and continued "...and I just want you to know that I think you've been doing a wonderful job. Thank you." Her face just lit up, like that was all she had needed all day. She was like "Oh, thanks!" then turned to her friend, "See? Now she just made me feel all better!" I felt great to seeing how happy I made someone else, just with a few words.
I dunno. I guess I'm just saying that no matter what, no matter how bad your day has been, you can always find some good in it somewhere if you just try hard enough.
Happy Holidays everyone, and have a great and safe New Year!
