I've journaled for years now, I started when I was 9. Of course back then it was more about trivial things such as what happened on the play ground, but I realize now it was good for me even then. Right now I keep a journal (I recently just bought a new one from the book store) and while I won't be writing in it everyday, I'll be sure to keep it with me so the next time I get triggered or something amazing happens I can write exactly how I feel. But it all depends on the person. At one point a few months ago I felt it was necessary to write an entry everyday, sometimes numerous, but my mood has lifted quite a bit since then so I don't need to.
It's about finding a good pace, I think. Also I find a real journal, one that you can carry around with you and write in with pencil or pen is a lot more therapeutic than one on the computer. A computer template might be good to get yourself going, but a book to me, feels way more personal. I found after writing journals on the computer I always still felt the same like I hadn't said a thing at all, even after writing paragraph after paragraph.. But after seeing the words in my own handwriting in a book I can hold, I notice I only need to write maybe half a page before I feel completely alleviated.
