His mom may be an RN, but she has no real business diagnosing you. Maybe you do, maybe you don't, maybe it's something else. Only a Pdoc can make an assessment that isn't simply based on anecdotal info. I obviously can't speak for anyone else financially, but I do not have insurance either. So I ranked medical things in order to prioritize. For me it was psych, med, then dentist. I've only availed myself of psych so far, because without that the rest would soon become irrelevant. And I hope not to be out of place here, but I went with a PMHNP instead of a Pdoc and T, because a psychiatric nurse practitioner can do both meds and talk therapy. Granted, they may not have as much training as a Pdoc, who would normally be the one handling meds, but I had to look at the situation as a whole and that's the way I went (along with a solid self-education). I DID already have a dx from a Pdoc, and that may be a difference too, but it may also be something to consider on a longer term basis (ie. maybe you can't afford a Pdoc long term, but at least if you can get a dx...? PMHNPs can dx too, but whatever would make you more comfortable...) All this is to say that there are options and dx is not the business of bystanders.
